Descriptive statistics simply means that you are trying to describe the data. This is different from inferential statistics where you are trying to reach a conclusion about the data.

Depending on the type of data, descriptive statistics may be presented using frequencies and percents, means and standard deviations, medians and range, and/or graphically in the form of a histogram, bar graph, pie chart, box plots, etc.
